Our Purpose

Lakeside Alliance – Builder of the Obama Presidential Center

Lakeside Alliance is a joint venture between Powers & Sons Construction Company, UJAMAA Construction Inc., Brown & Momen, Inc., Safeway Construction Company, and Turner Construction Company.  These five firms provide a team of experienced specialists who bring the most innovative solutions to the construction Industry.  Lakeside Alliance will execute a new paradigm in the business where community and capability are merged.

Transforming the Paradigm

Lakeside Alliance was formed to create a new paradigm that merges community, capability and opportunity. We are determined and dedicated to shift the socio-economic landscape of the construction industry and level the playing field for the individuals it serves. Our aim is to use a grassroots approach to the community in a meaningful, long-lasting manner through thoughtful planning and coordination with the efforts of the Obama Foundation.

Local Impact, Worldwide Reach

Our local Chicago team has worked together to create a plan that will allow the Lakeside Alliance to become a worthy partner of the community. We will meet, discuss and learn from our own teams, diverse subcontractors, key community partners, civic leaders, elected officials and workforce development program leaders to understand the concerns, capabilities and capacities of our communities; Our team will take the lessons learned on the Obama Presidential Center project around hiring and workforce development and implement them on future endeavors to make a lasting change in the communities we serve.

Sustainable Ecomonic Growth

We believe strongly that the project goals for the Center mirror ours, the success of the Obama Presidential Center project will be measured by its lasting community impact and the opportunities created for its neighboring citizens. The Lakeside Alliance’s goals are to use the influence of the Center’s development and construction to increase the capacity and capabilities of diverse contractors, suppliers and local businesses, diversify the demographics of the trade unions bringing expanded job opportunities to under-represented populations, engage the community in a meaningful and sustainable manner through thoughtful planning and coordination efforts, and shift the paradigm of the typical Construction Management joint venture team by exemplifying the success of a team with an equal minority-owned partner.
